Grading   - This lesson provides a step by step instruction on basic grading technique and size list manipulation.

Step 1:   After retrieving a couple of basic blocks and converting them to a pattern, p ress the Grading/PDS mode change button to switch to the Grading mode.  The PDS toolbars disappear and the grading toolbar shows up.  A floating Grading Panel is displayed.  The novice user can pretty much grade everything using the Grading Panel.  We will show you short cuts that are quicker.

Step 2:
Drag a selection box around one or more grading points to put the grading focus symbol on them.  Intermediate points are normally not graded but auto-blended by StyleCAD when the surrounding grading points are graded.

Step 3:     Press the up arrow button on the grading panel 4 times for 1/2 inch grading.   Notice the increment is set to 1/8 inch.  In order to change the increment value, click the increment button to cycle through all the choices or click one of the round buttons below the arrow buttons.  Notice the real-time grading and blending as you click the arrow key.

Step 4:  Click the right arrow button on the grading panel 3 times for 3/8 inch grading horizontally.  You can use the right arrow key on the keyboard.  Most advanced users prefer this method.

Step 5:  Click the 1/16 inch button to set the grading increment to 1/16 inch.

Step 6:    Click the up arrow 2 times for 1/8 inch grading in vertical direction.

Step 7:  Press the TAB key to advance the grading focus to the next grading point clockwise.  Shift+TAB key combination reverses the direction.  If there is more than one grading focus, then each one is advanced to the next grading point.

Step 8:
The Base Size Only command displays only the base size.  You can use the View Filter to do the same.  All Available Sizes displays all sizes.  The Selected Sizes Only command allows the user to control the visibility of individual sizes.

Step 9:
Select the Size Edit command.  Size Edit is used to define the size list and the base size.

Step 10:
The Rule Library List is the list of defined size lists.  When you click a rule library name, the corresponding size list shows up on the size list next to it.

Step 11:
Use the Load button to select the size list for the current style.  The current size list on the left side is loaded with the selected rule library's size list.

Step 12:
Define the base size.  Select a size from the current available size list and press the Set Base Size button.

Step 13:
Once you OK the Size Edit window, you are presented with the before and after look for each pattern.  Notice the same pattern with the new size list overlapping the previous pattern.  Notice the different number of sizes.  The base size is depicted in black color.  Press the Yes button to confirm the change.

Step 14:
Select the Change Base Size command.  The number of sizes remains the same but the base size could be moved around.

Step 15:
Select 12 as the base size.  Ok the window.

Step 16:
The size 12 is now depicted in black color.  The physical dimension of each size does not change.
