USB Digitizers StyleCAD is frequently updated with for use with the latest technologies available to customers. With the advent of USB technology, many StyleCAD users have begun using digitizers which use USB ports instead of serial ports (such as the GTCO Super L IV). This is especially important, since most new laptops no longer provide serial ports. The most common USB digitizer on the market is the GTCO Super L IV, and we've written this article especially for this digitizer, but it should work for any USB digitizer on the market. To use the USB cable for GTCO Super L IV, it is first necessary to install the included installtion CD. The on-screen instructions will provide the user with a step-by-step procedure for installing the Wintab driver. Once the Wintab driver is installed, enter the digitizer window within StyleCAD by using the menus Tools -> Digitizer. Then enter the digitizer setup by using the menus Setting -> Digitizer Setup. Then select "Wintab" from the digitizer selection list. ![]() ![]()
An advantage the USB digitizer has over the serial connection, is that the USB cable also functions as the digitizer's power cable. This means the user does not have to connect a power adapter is the USB cable is used. This is perfect for digitizing patterns in the field with a laptop. Our technical team has, at times, experienced a problem where the USB connection is not recognized by the system. This may be a defect in the digitizer's design. If this occurs, simply purchase a Serial-to-USB adapter, and plug in the cable this way. |
